Haven of Hope Australia Inc. (HoH) is a privately-run, not-for-profit, incorporated body whose charter is a hands-on, grass roots approach to early intervention for vulnerable families prior to statutory child protection involvement. The HoH approach is proactive rather than reactive. The unique HoH approach involves all sectors of society – government agencies, NGO’s, community and the families themselves. HoH creates therapeutic micro-communities with a comprehensive training, counselling and mentoring program to help parents rebuild and families reconnect with the broader community.
HoH provides holistic practical and emotional support for families who are at risk of requiring child protection involvement through utilizing supported accommodation and relevant, practical, hands-on training. HoH aims to generate lasting change in families by developing relationship capacities, functional skills and teaching individuals how to effectively utilize and grow from practical and emotional support.
Whilst the initial support is geared towards crisis intervention and prevention, HoH also provides a strategic, supported re-integration program to establish or re-connect the families with their community so they can confidently move forward and reach their full potential as parents and community members.
At this stage, this family preservation service is only provided to single mothers with young or primary school aged children however, in looking to the future, it is envisaged that the program will be expanded to include other demographic groups such as pregnant teens, single fathers and even couples.
